YOUNG SCORPIONS WIN TROPHY
The Gambia have at last again captured an international trophy away from home. After the 2009 U-17 finals played in Algeria where the darling teenagers came out victorious over hosts Algeria, its the second time again this year at the Italy tournament where an U-19 team will bring to Banjul a coveted trophy.
The Young Scorpions beat new comers China at the Sunday finals of the Umbria Regional tournament a goal to nil courtesy of Momodu Badjie who plays his local football for Hawks. The Gambia overcame Slovenia, San Marino and Umbria in the group phase before facing off hosts Italy at the semis to beat them 3-1 at penalties after a one all stalemate at normal time. Again the young Hawks revelation made his name in the scoring sheet equaling his goal tally to four, the highest in the tournament.
The team and delegation are expected to arrive in Banjul on Tuesday morning via Dakar where they would be met at the Banjul ferry terminal for welcome ceremonies....
